Oforikrom Residents Threaten Naked Demo Over Delayed Bridge Construction

Some aggrieved residents of Deduako and Apemso both in the Oforikrom constituency of the Ashanti region have threatened to embark on a demonstration in protest against the delay of the road bridge construction on Apemso-Deduako main road.

The continual delay of works on the demolished Deduako-Apemso road bridge which has generated vehicular traffic in Oforikrom municipal has sparked anger among residents of the area and they have threatened to embark on a naked demonstration against the member of parliament for the area Dr Emmanuel Marfo and the municipal assembly authority.

Scores of angry looking Deduako and Apemso youth stormed the construction site Wednesday morning and issued a sixteen-day ultimatum to the member of parliament to call the contractor to complete the bridge else would hit the streets, with their nakedness.

The irate youth led by some leading members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), speaking to Fox FM's Isaac Nsiah Foster stressed they arrived at the site around 9 am, but to their chagrin, there was no worker at the site.

The irate youth lambasted the authorities who were mandated to ensure the early completion of the project, for not having the interest of the people at heart, hence the delay.

According to them the date for the completion of the bridge which is situated at Apemso in the Oforikrom constituency had been delayed for about two years as promised by the member of parliament for the area Dr Emmanuel Marfo and there was no sign that the bridge would be completed anytime soon.

Some said the delay of the project was having adverse effects on their movement and businesses leading to the closure of several shops in the area.

To this effect, some of the voters are calling for the emerging of the Asawasi constituency with Oforikrom under the representative of Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak is currently a minority chief whip.

The angry residents also threatened to vote out Dr Emmanuel Marfo MP for the Oforikrom constituency who promised to ensure that the project will be completed in no time, but has turned deaf to their worries, incoming 2024 general elections.

However speaking on Fox Morning Drive with Kwaku Kyeremateng Nkansah aka KK Dr Emmanuel Marfo gave assurance of sooner completion of the project and further disclosed that the contractor will be resuming work on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, but on a visit to the site, Fox FM's Isaac Nsiah Foster reported there was no worker on the site.
