LGBTQI Activists Denied Bail For The Fourth Time

A court in Ghana has denied bail to 21 lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and gender-diverse (LGBT+) activists for the fourth time, two weeks after they were arrested.

The 21 were arrested in Volta Region’s Ho town at a meeting to discuss LGBT rights and they were accused of unlawful assembly.

The UN called for their release stating that they were discriminated against and arrested because of their sexual orientation.

Even though it is not unlawful to be identified as LGBT in Ghana but male to male and female to female sexual acts are illegal in the country.
