The Ministry for Lands and Natural resources has assured Ghanaian Miners that, the ministry is determined to protect legitimate small scale miners in the country.

The Public Relations officer for the ministry Abraham Otabil insisted that sustainable and responsible mining in the country cannot be stopped, hence, the Ministry is ready to roll out active measures to protect legitimate miners to do their business and do it appropriately in a friendly manner.

He said legitimate miners should be rest assured that, the ministry is not stopping legitimate mining activities but mining activities should be following the environmental friendliness and should also be done sustainably.

Mining activities in the country have come under attacks due to its rate of deteriorating the environment through illegal mining activities popularly known as galamsey.

According to him, measures from the government through the ministry of lands and natural resources have been rolled out to halt illegal miners especially those mining on river bodies and reserved forest. 

Speaking on Fox FM morning drive hosted by Osempakani, he said the ministry will continue with the dialogue with the appropriate stakeholders to find lasting solutions to illegal mining activities in the country insisting that the Ministry would ensure the sustainability of the fight against illegal mining activities in the country.
