The Asokore Mampong district court presided over by Her Worship Afia Densi Asare Kyere has remanded a 26-year old Akwasi Bonsu, the alleged killer of the 20-year old girl Samira Yakubu at Paakoso.

The Asokore Mampong district court presided over by Her Worship Afia Densi Asare Kyere has remanded a 26-year old Akwasi Bonsu, the alleged killer of the 20-year old girl Samira Yakubu at Paakoso.

Praying to the court Chief Inspector Samuel Mensah pray that the court should remand the accused Akwasi Bonsu into the Police custody to enable the prosecution to have smooth cooperation with the accused and also to complete their investigations.

The court, therefore, granted the prosecution request and remanded the accused Akwasi Bonsu for three (3) weeks into Police custody.

The accused Akwasi Bonsu is to reappear on January 11, 2022.

Speaking to Fox News reporter Isaac Nsiah Foster, the leader of the prosecution team Chief Inspector Samuel Mensah stressed on December 13th, 2021 police got information that someone has murdered his girlfriend because of that police went to the scene and upon arrival, they saw people lynching the accused Akwasi Bonsu.

According to him, the police rescued the accused at the police station and it was there they got to know that he is the suspect involving the murder case.

He further stressed the police took witness statements from the accused Akwasi Bonsu and the other people around.

On why three weeks remand period, Chief Inspector Samuel Mensah noted when such cases are reported the police have to do investigations and get to the later part of the crime.

Inspector Samuel Mensah disclosed the prosecution has not completed their investigations so the best thing to do is to go to court so that the court will properly remand the accused of the police to do all the necessary investigations before going back to court again.

"Police brought the accused Akwasi Bonsu to and prosecution also proceeded to the court for the court to remand accused, however, the court has granted a prosecution request for the accused Akwasi Bonsu to be remanded into Police custody" Inspector Samuel Mensah hinted.

Responding to the earlier media report that the deceased Samira Yakubu was a commercial sex worker,  Mallam Umar Farouk father of the deceased refute the media report and said his daughter was a trader who lives with her grandma at Akwatialine in Kumasi.

According to him the last time he heard about his daughter was about her death which is Monday, December 13, 2021.

Mallam Umar Farouk however appealed to the court to release the body remain to the family for them to bury.

"You know as Muslims our dead bodies are not put in a mortuary, therefore, we need to bury her immediately that's why we are pleading with the court"  Mallam Umar Farouk disclosed

BACKGROUND
 
On December 13, 2021, a section of Residents of Paakoso in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region was gripped with fear following the gruesome murder of a 20-year old Samira Yakubu by an ex-convict Akwasi Bonsu.

The deceased who has been described by many as a prostitute who plies her trade at Dichemso and Kenyasi both in Ashanti Region was invited by the accused Akwasi Bonsu, to his house on Monday, December 13, 202.


Scenes from his house indicated that he allegedly slashed her with a kitchen knife before smashing her head with a block.

Reports say the victim was allegedly murdered by Akwasi Bonsu a few minutes after they entered the house on Monday.

Some residents in an interview with Fox news Isaac Nsiah Foster disclosed that they heard a noise in the house but did not suspect the murder.

"We followed the noise in the house to check the problem only to see the suspect with blood".

"The suspect upon questioning on why he was soaked in blood attempted to run but was timely apprehended by some men who were working in a house opposite to the murder scene," one of the accused relatives noted.

A search in the house by people around led to the discovery of the body of the young lady hiding in a plantain farm in the house.

The body of the deceased has been conveyed and deposited at the morgue for preservation.
